Healing Hurt Wounds!

Healing Wounds

Today, pull up a chair, take a seat, and let’s talk. To begin, it is “ok” to acknowledge hurt. Acknowledgement is the first stage to healing wounds. “Yes, the one person, among the many, was willing to say, I am hurting.” This chair is SPECIAL!

Emerging from Pain – Stage 1 – The “E”

Unapologetic panelists! A few years ago, I attended a mini-conference day – “The Truth Summit.” The panelists were allowed to openly talk about their internal struggles. The primary focus was to help others by sharing how each emerged from hurt, deception, and harmful situations. While each story was different, there were common elements or threads that stood out in the process of healing. Three identifiable ways which I call, CAR! Change! Accountability! Resources!

  1. Desire change. “I desire to remove the crippling effects of my circumstances.”
  2. Accept accountability. “I am accountable to myself for starting over.”
  3. Seek resources. “I will find and reach outwardly for resources that will help me to change and be accountable for my actions.”

Application of Antiseptics and Bandages – Stage 2 – The “A”

In the natural, we treat wounds with the application of antiseptics and bandages. The purpose of antiseptics is to clean the wound of bacteria and infection. Even more, wrapping the wounds in bandages is for protection. This adds a layer of protection against germs and other invaders. Spiritually, do we not require the application of antiseptics and bandages for healing? We require healing for our protection. The application of the Word and Holy Spirit will heal our wounds. Healed wounds are a sign of battle scars and the protection one receives from the enemy.

Measured Medications

Medications have side effects. The side effects vary per individual. For this reason, good physicians consider the whole individual in prescribing how much medicine a person should take. In the natural, when a person applies antiseptics and bandages, immediately, the body responds to defend itself. Within a few days, a scab appears as an added defense of protection. God applies the right measurement to your wound – your hurt. It simply takes the asking to be healed. Do you wish to be healed?

Surprises – Part of Healing Wounds

Have you experienced something unexpected as you heal? Along the healing process, there can be surprises. One might heal others. Why? Because there is a setup for a comeback! It just might be a correction in the way you think or react to the situation. God’s correction is part of the healing process. One has an internal change. Outwardly, there is a display of what is happening internally. For instance, when the mind changes, one finds rest for the soul. What a surprise!

All the wounds of a person are not known- not even to self. Only God knows all the cries of an individual. The revelation of how much baggage you carry will be a great surprise, but not to God. In fact, hiding internal wounds is not uncommon. The song, Smiling Faces Sometimes, by The Undisputed Truth is still relevant today (Video embedded below). It speaks of how people hide behind smiles, namely because of hurt and as a protection from others. This type of hurt masks itself in different forms, i.e., resentment, unforgiveness, anger, jealousy, recklessness, etc. But God desires to heal the brokenness in people. Although He wants to heal the brokenness, He loves people so much that He will not break His boundary of freewill. Freely He gives (Matthew 7:7-14); He wants people to accept Him freely.

Recovery – Stage 3 – The “R”

As shown above, the panelists accept that each day the individual is in recovery. The emergence is from crippling pain to joy. That pain which one kept the person in chains and addicted is now a journey with a future. In recovery, the individual finds and continues to connect with resources for healing. The Word is their daily food. Comparatively, Jesus always acknowledged the pain of an individual before healing the person. His sensitivity to pain gave an assurance that he was compassionate and had empathy for their situation. To partner with persons who can support the mind, body, and soul for growing is important to recovery. This is a stage of continued growth for the mind and spirit.

Finally, in recovery there is joy. Happiness is temporary; it is a moment in time. Joy, on the other hand, is allowing the Creator to lead and guide no matter the situation for healing wounds and maintaining peace.
