Understanding Spiritual Wellness
Spiritual wellness includes the mind, body, and soul. It is to bear good fruit in each season of your life. Spiritual wellness connects to prosperity and success. Psalms 1:3 declares that joy is given for those who delight in the laws of the Almighty. Scriptures breathe life – soundness into the mind, transforming the body and soul (emotions). For example, speaking positive words reenforces positive thoughts. It creates empowerment zones within the mindset. On the other hand, if your thoughts are always negative, it consumes, making you “sick.” Hence you will transfer this sickness into other places, i.e., the home, workplace, etc.
Daily Practices to Enhance Spiritual Wellness
There are a number of practical things that you can do to generate and maintain spiritual wellness. These are only a few spiritual wellness tips:
- Prayer is vital. It is an awesome way to start and end your day.
- Mediate on good things.
- Reflect on what you do well.
- Create your space for positive feedback. This place must support warm thoughts or tasks of energy levels. For instance, pray, meditate, write or journal about something that makes you happy in that space.
- Make a personal phone call to thank someone who has or have had a positive effect on your life.
- Intentionally, make your “News for the Day.” Draw a picture or make a personal card with encouraging words and MAIL it to a friend. This can help foster the spiritual health or well-being of someone else. Going beyond self.
- Be intentional about the type of literature you read. Is the literature self-help and informative for your mind, body and soul?
- Be intentional about the type of TV shows you watch. Is the program degrading of e.g. other human beings?
- Identify music resources and types that enhances your spiritual wellness. Engage for positive results.
Overcoming Barriers to Spiritual Wellness
There are a number of barriers that people face when striving to achieve spiritual wellness. Barriers include busyness, stress, distractions, and fatigue. Yet, you can overcome and draw from personal experiences to lessen and defeat obstacles. For example, for every three hours of busyness, build in ten minutes of downtime or “me time.” That is, for an eight-hour busy day, reward yourself thirty minutes of “me time”. During that time, place yourself in a position of calmness. Allow God to speak to your mindset, deceasing your pressure, and emotionally loving yourself. You are wonderfully created by Him.
Community and Spiritual Wellness
- Explore community support groups or places in fostering spiritual wellness.
- Evaluate and monitor how you spend your time.
- Identify resources that can positively enhance your mindset. Draw upon those groups and mentors.
- Ask yourself, “What is the potential benefit of this program, mentor, or group. How can my volunteering support the group’s mission and vision? Will highlighting my spiritual journey support others?”
